Music and Me

Hi Everyone! My name is Bentlee. I am originally from Asheville, NC. I am a transfer from Guilford College in Greensboro where I played basketball. While I was there I got my associate degree in arts. I have played basketball and softball my whole life but I chose to pursue basketball in college. I live in the mountains so I love being outside all the time. Whenever I want to clear my mind I just drive up to the parkway and enjoy the view. I have 3 dogs who I love dearly and keep me on my toes all the time. Their names are Huncho, Draco, and Fat Fat. I enjoy spending all my time with my family because I feel like family means the most in the world. I am the middle child and I have an older and younger brother. I also want to major in Psychology and child and family studies.

1. An example of something I like right now is "TBH" by PartyNextDoor. I like this song right now because it relates to a situation in my life that I was going through. My friend and I also really bonded over this song as well. Music is something that I am big on, so when I can enjoy a song with someone who I love deeply it makes the song hit even harder. I can connect well with music especially when the lyrics are meaningful and actually speak to you. Something I like to do is find songs that resemble experiences in my life and they help me get through it and then I eventually make a strong connection with that song. Party is also my favorite artist and I listen to him every day. A memory I have of this song is when my and my friend were in the car talking and this song came on we sat there the whole time just having a little concert in the car and it was one of our best moments.

2. An example of music that is deeply important to me is the song " A House Is Not a Home" by Luther Vandross. This song means a lot to me because my Grandma used to play it whenever I went over there when I was little. My grandma is my favorite person in the world to me. Since I am away at college, I can turn on the song whenever I miss her and it makes me feel happy. I also love the lyrics of the song. I am a big romantic person and hearing the song just reminds me of something that I would want to have in the future. I also enjoy older music because I think it is way more passionate than the music today.

3. An example of music that I don't really connect with connect with is heavy metal music. I am more of like a slow music person. I love R&B songs so the intense and loudness of heavy metal is not something I would want to listen to. I just couldn't see myself turning on something with a lot of yelling. I like chill vibes when I am listening to music and I feel like hearing that would be too much for me to handle. I wouldn't be opposed to maybe trying to find songs to listen to in that category but it just wouldn't be my first couple of picks to listen to. I think hearing this would just drive me a little crazy.

  1. I really love that you choose an old school song. I love this song and not just from watching “Madea” lol but my grandma as well would play this song, as well as “If only for one night” this is great. You should check out that song by Luther as well and let me know your thought's.
