Music and Rituals
The ritual that I'm going to be talking about is one that is very special and important to me. My ritual is on Christmas with all my siblings and we perform " All I Want for Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey. This tradition started when I was younger because I used to love to sing all the time. When everyone was over at my grandparent's house, I was doing something for people to watch. I first started doing the song by myself but eventually made my brother perform it with me. Then our other siblings began to join us as they got older. It has changed a couple times throughout the years but we also make sure to do the song together at the very end. Family is something that Is very important to me and I cherish every moment I have with them. Going to my grandparents on Christmas has been my favorite thing ever since I was little. I would go over to my grandparents the day before and help her decorate the house and the tree and then we would make cookies and watch some of our favorite Christmas movies. Since we have all gotten older we sometimes like to perform separately sometimes or do different things. I used to play the flute a couple years ago so sometimes I would perform a song by using my flute. I remember this one time we all joined together and created a rap. All 5 of us had our own lines and I remember practicing for like 3 weeks before we actually performed it. We took the practice very seriously because we wanted it to turn out well. I remember my part was about basketball because it is my favorite thing to do and it was easy to come up with stuff to say. I remember my younger sister being about Barbie dolls because she loved them so much and always had one with her. Another song that we would all sing at my grandparents including the adults was "Mary, Did You Know?" which is also one of my favorite songs. I remember that my mom used to sing that song to me all the time and it used to get stuck in my hand. I liked how everyone joined in on that song because it just makes everything wholesome and we are all creating memories together. Sometimes we do things together that don't include us singing but some Christmas tunes in the back. Sometimes we have an ugly sweater contest or my grandma will hide the pickle ornament and we have to find it in order to win I remember last Christmas we had a gingerbread contest and I ended up winning it.
All I want for Christmas-
Mary, Did You Know?-
Hi! Christmas is just amazing and important for me to. It's the time of the year when I usually can spend time with my family. Which I belive is so important as well. It's cool that you can play the flute, I wish I could say I was able to play an instrument.. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what it is, but I feel that everyone feels the same way around the holidays. Even if my family gets on my nerves, I don't think I could imagine a Christmas without our traditions. It was funny reading about you and your siblings practicing a rap so seriously because you wanted it to be good. I think Mariah Carey is very popular in everyone's Christmas rituals. It feels like she's everywhere at that time. Besides that, it was fun listening to "Mary, did you know?" I don't believe I've ever listened to the full song before today, so thank you for sharing that!
ReplyDeleteI really love Christmas, and it is such an important holiday for me as well. As someone who also has siblings, I really loved reading about how you and your siblings perform all I want for Christmas by Miriah Carey. That is such a cute tradition. Good job
ReplyDeleteHi, I really like how you mentioned Christmas as that time if year is so special. Some of my best memories are at Christmas and when I hear songs such as you chose, it really does bring back many good memories . I like how you can also play the flute and i can imagine it took a lot of practice. Great post.
ReplyDeleteI love all your little Christmas traditions! I really only have one or two so it was very nice to learn about someone else's! I can tell how close your family is just from your stories. You and your siblings rap sounds like it was so much fun! I remember when I was younger I used to also make different songs/raps for different holidays (never performed them though and never want to).
